Weekend Getaway

A week ago last Thursday my parent's, sister, and Justin and I flew out to Los Angeles for the weekend! It was an incredible trip, something I never thought I would be able to do or a place I would ever get to go to. We had so much fun in a very short amount of time. We had all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning to get as much in as we could. Needless to say we were constantly on the move and going to be extremely late - especially after you consider the time change. We flew out from NWA through Allegiant Air late Thursday evening.. so by the time we arrived in LA it was almost 1am, 3am in AR. That was rough! We had to make our way out of the giant airport and to the buses to take us to the rental cars. Then we had to deal with all of that before beginning our navigation to our hotel in Marina Del Rey (a suburb of LA). Friday morning we got up and headed down the road to Venice Beach! We were just a couple blocks from the ocean so we did lots and lots of walking this day. First we headed out to tour the canals in Venice before getting to the actual ocean.

This is the location where part of "Valentine's Day" the movie was filmed and the house behind us and the bridge we're standing on are a part of that movie. This is the house that Ashton Kutcher lived in and this is the bridge where you threw the rose pedals off of. Pretty cool!

Once we got out of the canal area, we finished the trek to the beach. Venice Beach was very very interesting, not a place I really cared to see/or go. There were some very interesting people and sights there. We walked through and enjoyed the view of the ocean as we made our way a couple more miles to Santa Monica - and yes, I said miles.

Still walking.... a long ways. I think it ended up being a longer walk than we had anticipated. There weren't many people out this Friday morning so it was kind of nice getting to see if fairly empty.

Finally we made it to Santa Monica and to the famous pier! Here we are at the end of the pier near the Pacific Park theme park that's located on the pier. Once we got the Santa Monica there were more people out and about. We had lunch on the pier before deciding we would hop on public transportation to get us closer to our hotel so we didn't have to walk all the way back. Once there we rested some before heading out to the baseball game!

Well, it all worked out for us because the weekend we were looking to go to LA, the Cardinals happened to be coming to town to play the Dodgers. Now that was our sign that it was meant to be! Ha! So of course we fit this into our schedule. We pre-bought tickets and all sat out in the "Pig-Out Porch" located in right field. They were great seats and so delicious considering we got to eat as much as we wanted! Our seats also happened to be located next to the Cards bullpen so Justin was in Heaven getting to watch the pitchers warm up. He says he couldn't tell you a thing that happened the whole game. Throughout the whole game we were able to get 3 Cardinals autographs, one of the being Mitchell Boggs. After the game they had fireworks and let everyone go on the outfield to watch. It was a really cool experience.

Here we are as close to the infield as we could get. They had ushers and security all around it so we were only able to get to the edge of the grass before the fireworks began. We all wore our Cardinal shirts so when we first walked in and up to our seats we actually got booed! It was a little crazy.

Saturday morning we got up pretty early and headed to Hollywood where we caught the famous double-decker tour bus! We did a tour that allowed us to get on and off at any stop on the tour we wanted to and then we were ready to leave we would catch the next bus that came around. It was really fun but we were crunched for time so we didn't get to do/see near as much as we wanted. Here we are before the bus, standing on Hollywood Blvd right outside Jimmy Kimmel's show!

Waiting for our bus to take off. It was much hotter than we anticipated it being in LA/Hollywood. Of course we got seats on top with the open air so we could get a better view!

Grauman's Chinese Theater! Where almost all movie premiers take place. This is also where lots of the hand and foot prints are located.

Our tour also took us to Beverly Hills where we spent quite a bit of time. We took pictures in front of this sign before heading down the crazy Rodeo Drive. The neighborhoods were so perfect, lawns perfectly maintained, and they even have back alleys behind their houses where the trash is picked up so no one has to see it in front of their houses.  A little much if you ask me.

The one and only! We walked down the street with hopes of seeing some celebrities but never saw anyone. Sad. It was still really cool getting to see these stores, some of which I had never heard of.

We made our way down the road and saw this thing. It's a Bugati, I believe it's about a million dollar vehicle. No joke. Not very pretty either. We never saw the owner cause he/she was in a store so no idea who it belonged to. There were crowds of people all around it taking pictures. My dad and sister said this car can get up to 240mph.

Haylee and me on the bus again.

Mom and dad. It was so hot we all enjoyed having out own seats.

Mom and me wishing we were almost there to get off.  We were roasting.

Once we made it back to Hollywood Blvd we went straight to work trying to locate Marilyn Monroe's star. I also had high hopes of finding Ellen Degeneres too. She had just gotten her's the week before we were there but we couldn't find it anywhere! And we were running out of time so we had to give up.

Us with Marilyn. After we left Hollywood we headed straight to Burbank for our reservation for a VIP tour of Warner Bros. Studio. This is one of the best things I have ever gotten to do. We all had a blast but I think I really enjoyed it the most. I knew a couple of my favorite shows were filmed there, but I didn't know how many exactly! We got to see all sorts of things and places where Gilmore Girls, Hart of Dixie, and Pretty Little Liars were/are filmed. It was the best!! It is incredible how they do what they do to make TV shows and movies! I will admit, I had a giant guilty pleasure of Pretty Little Liars and I got to go on the entire scene on the show!! It was awesome! Since our tour was on a Saturday, WB doesn't do any filming or producing on weekends so we didn't see any stars. Which ultimately was ok with me because if they would have been then you don't get to see stages and sets. So it worked out better for us. We also saw the stage for The Big Bang Theory, and the set of Central Perk from Friends! It was such an incredible experience.

Haylee and I in front of Rosewood High from Pretty Little Liars! Weird thing- it's a completely hollow building! Just a front! This was one of the funnest trips I have ever been on. We probably could have used another full day to get everything done that we wanted to do, but I am grateful for the time we were able to spend there and that we have some great people to travel with!
